As expectativas para a COP30 em Belém

Abstract

The main objective of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Climate Convention, which took place in Baku, Azerbaijan in November 2024, was to update the financial commitments of industrialized countries “to meet the needs of developing countries”. These needs were estimated by the Convention’s Finance Committee at 5 to 7 trillion dollars from 2022 to 2030, i.e. around 455-485 billion dollars a year. COP 29 in Baku adopted a new commitment to invest 300 billion dollars a year by 2035. Applying these resources will not prevent the Earth’s temperature from exceeding 2.6 ^oC by the end of the century. Additional actions will be essential to prevent the Earth’s temperature from rising by just 1.5 ^oC, such as a new Marshall Plan to combat global warming or new public policies.
