This paper is aimed at investigating the relationship between economic growth and pollutant emissions in the BRICS countries based on the theoretical approach of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC). We have used the econometric method of cointegration for panel data and the results of the empirical model pointed to evidence of an inverted U-shaped curve for this group of countries. We have found inflection points of US$ 2,033,89 and US$ 2,057.61, respectively, in the DOLS and FMOLS estimators. Additionally, the results indicated that per capita energy consumption and international trade have a positive and negative impact on CO2
emissions, respectively.
