Abstract

This paper estimates the impacts of the “ProgramaNossa Bolsa” (PNB) of the government of the state of Espírito Santo, which offers scholarships to students from public schools in higher education institutions on the beneficiaries’ schooling and job market performance. Using a propensity score matching strategy, our results show an increase of 25 percentage points over the individual’s probability of completing higher education. We also found positive effects on the probability of being employed and on wages. Regarding time on the job, we estimate a negative effect of the program.
