This paper discusses the changes in industrial structure in the nineties, after the trade liberalization, specially the thesis of regressive specialization - which can be understood as the gain of importance in lower technology intensity, like traditional and commodities sectors. The conclusion is that data does not confirm the regressive specialization thesis. What is used here are statistics from the new series of the annual industrial survey and a special tabulation of the monthly industrial survey of physical production from IBGE.
