This article reports an effort to characterize Sao Paulo's innovative firms. This characterization was done based on PAEP (Paulista Economic Activity Research) information. It was employed statistical non-parametrical procedures, which informs that the three distinctive main factors are the export orientation, the size of the firm, and the industrial sector effect. Besides, it was showed that the market concentration, and the foreign capital origin, are important to distinct between innovators and non innovators firms, but in a less incisive way.
