Abstract

This paper develops a comparative analysis of key political economic approaches about the growth of public expenditures in the last 25 years. The main purpose of the analysis is to identify the key causal mechanisms and variables embedded in these theoretical frameworks in order to construct a main typology of explanatory possibility about the expansion of public expenditures in modern societies.
