Resumen

The present study analyzed the sensibility of the international demand for different types of coffees, in different markets, to changes in prices, considering coffee as a different product according to country or region of origin. To do so, it was used equations proposed by Armington, to obtain the direct and cros-price elasticities (sintesized) for coffees differentiated by origin in each of the consuming markets. The elasticities of substitution obtained suggest that there is little substitution among coffees of different origins in each market to changes in the relative prices. That market rigidity is also evidenced by the results of price elasticity of total demand by coffee. The main conclusion is that, when taking its decisions about importing coffees, different countries take in consideration the place of origin and, that coffees from different origins present very little substitutability in those markets.
