Resumen

The objective of this study was to analyze the technical, allocative and costs efficiency ofshrimp aquaculture by using data envelopment analysis technique. The results showed that 38 shrimp farmers are technically efficient and 30 are inefficient, requiring to reduce the use of inputs by 19,11%. Measures of allocative efficiency and of costs suggested a reduction in the inefficiency of combination of the inputs use and productive costs to maximize profit. The optimum combination ofthe inputs would reduce by 37,13% the operational cost of the inefficient ones. It was concluded that bad combination of the inputs is not allowing to maximize profit, in spite ofthe enormous profitability ofthe sector.
