Abstract

This paper analyzes the evolution of durable and nondurable goods consumption, examining whether consumers slowly adjust their consumption when new information becomes available, as proposed by Caballero (1990). The data is comprised by real per capita series of durable and nondurable consumption from 1970 to 2003. The results indicate that consumption of both durable and non-durable goods exhibits slow adjustment, yet not identical.
