Kajii Motojirô (1901-1932) is a Japanese writer known for his poetic writing and unusual images. He contracted tuberculosis in his youth and lived with the disease for several years before an early death. The effects of tuberculosis on his body and the awareness of the imminent death are frequent themes in his texts, as in Lemon (Remon, 1925), the first short story published in Aozora, a literary magazine that he created together with some friends at the time when he was studying Literature at Tokyo Imperial University, and which is translated here.
