It is aimed to analyse Tanizaki Jun’ichirô’s short story Shisei under the optics of a literature related to the Edo period, in which pleasure is related to pain. It is discussed the role tattoo played amongst townsmen, the unique relation between tattoo master and its client and the sexuality aroused in a woman through a love specialist eyes. A parallel is made between the short story elements and the European literary movement of the decadents, specially with Oscar Wilde's novel The portrait of Dorian Gray.##plugins.themes.default.displayStats.downloads##
