As Notas do Rei: um estudo sobre soberania e retórica imperial no tempo de Henrique VIII

O artigo propõe analisar o documento Notes gathered out of the King's records, for the justification of his highness's property of, and superiority over the realm of Scotland [undated, 1542?] e a sua relação com o reinado de Henrique VIII da Inglaterra. Há a possibilidade de que o manuscrito seja um levantamento realizado a mando do monarca em 1542, ano em que promoveu uma invasão militar na Escócia. Explorando a sua textualidade, procura-se perscrutar essa hipótese a partir de análise comparativa e do cotejamento com a declaração da guerra propagandeada pelo rei naquele mesmo ano. Inserido em seu contexto, pondera-se sobre a articulação dessas ideias, vocabulários e símbolos em novas tentativas de forjar um Império Tudor, que era definido como britânico em termos geográficos e históricos. Os documentos e suas análises apontam para a tentativa de posicionar Henrique VIII não como soberano apenas da Inglaterra, mas sim de todas as outras entidades das “Ilhas Britânicas”. Na especificidade da Era Tudor, examina-se, ao longo do artigo, sobre como o desenvolvimento teórico de soberania relaciona-se com essa retórica de tipo imperial.
