Law and education: In defense of freedom

This article aims to argue that law and education, in John Locke, to some extent complement each other in order to remove the possibility of oppression, with the aim of guaranteeing the political freedom of individuals against domination. To achieve this goal, two works will be fundamental: The Second Treatise on Government and Some Thoughts on Education. Based on the former, we will seek to analyze the circumstances that resulted in individuals renouncing their freedom in order to associate in society under the protection of the law - which implies the need to examine the state of nature and the state of war; in the latter, we will seek to investigate Locke's concern that children do not become oppressors. With this, we hope to contribute to the work of future researchers of Locke's political and educational thought, in order to demonstrate a possible way of relating these two aspects of the English thinker's philosophy.
