In this paper I will evaluate the opinion about the similarities between Schopenhauer’s philosophy and that of German Idealists. Drawing mainly on Schopenhauer’s manuscripts prior to the mature phase of his philosophy, I will try to show that, despite the idealistic-spinozist framework in which he had to settle, Schopenhauer’s philosophy differs radically from that of the German Idealists.
