Abstract

The following text discusses a passage from the Introduction to the outline of the system of the philosophy of nature written by Schelling in 1799, in which he equates the project of his philosophy of nature with the realization of a “Spinozism of physics”. The understanding of such a designation entails at least two moments. The first refers to the presupposed systematicity of the form of his philosophy, which he claims to be rigorously scientific. The second presents his opposition to the materialist and mechanistic understanding of nature, with its description based on the primacy of the organic over the inorganic.
