This article analyzes the cover of one of the Estado de Minas
newspaper editions and, in doing so, intends to investigate the effects of the
sense constructed by rereading the journalistic literature mode, commonly
associated with the first pages of printed newspapers, taken here as covers. As
an example, the cover published in November 2015, whose main characteristic
is a graphic composition radically different from the traditional model adopted
by the largest newspapers, the intertextual and interdiscursive play established
with the lyrics of the song Que país é esse? by Legião Urbana. Using
the theoretical-methodological contribution of discursive semiotics, especially
with regard to studies on syncretism in verbal-visual texts, we notice that
the mobilization of certain enunciative strategies, associated to changes in
the plastic composition in texts of this nature, create unlikely simulacra for
journalistic discourse. Regarding the edition under analysis, we highlight the
effects of literature, interdisciplinary relations and intertextual allusions that
reconfigure the way newspapers are published and how content is presented
to the enunciatee-reader.
