SEMIOTIC ANALYSIS OF SPACE (THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL) IN TEACHING ARCHITECTURE

If we want to move from intuitive apprehension of spacial and cultural differences to methodological knowledge of space embodied in our experience, let us look at a relatively simple example of a semiotic analysis. The object of this analysis is my theoretical and practical classroom where I started learning architecture at ESBAL (School of Fine Arts of Lisbon) in 1985. Here the methods of space semiotics allow us to access the knowledge and the functioning of this space. This article is organized into three main chapters:
the level of expression (analysis of the topos - A), the content level (analysis of the do - B) and the relation between the level of expression and of content (Semiosis and Semic Geography - C).
