Semiotic studies regarding song often tend to isolate lyrics and the melodical profile, whether from the concrete musical coating (meaning, the concrete realisation of song through voice and musical instruments, in which poetry and music find themselves articulated), whether from the musical performance (in which musicians, on stage or on screen, dialogue with cinema and theatre, in other words, with the dramatic arts). The following semiotic essay aims to go beyond such semiotic studies, expanding its theoretical reach beyond the abstract links between lyrics and melody, in which the instrumentalization and musical performance are not even acknowledged.
