The iconizing architecture of Luz do Sol

Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyse the song Luz do Sol, composed by Caetano Veloso, in order to check its supposed iconic character. The iconizing effect of this song seems to be evident in the melodic treatment given to the lyrics, understood even in a unworried, but not only this. The lexeme luz (light) seems to occupy a prominent position in the whole song, representing a role of iconizing center under several aspects: syntactic, semantic, strophic, phonic and tonal. We promote a minudent anlysis of this song, examining its lyrics, syntactically, semantically, the strophic structure, the lexical selection, the phonic composition and the tonal order.
