Abstract

This article has poured over the journalistic coverage of attacks inflicted by illegal gold miners on indigenous Yanomami peoples in Yanomami land in Roraima. The research has analyzed publications by websites Brasil de Fato and Grupo Globo's G1 Roraima between March and November 2021, a period in which the conflict between these groups has intensified. When analyzing the material, the author has surveyed terms, discourses and voices silenced and heard throughout the journalistic process. This survey has concluded that Brasil de Fato's coverage brought, beyond the factual, the indigenous peoples' vision of events and a deeper analysis of the impacts of illegal gold mining on the territory, while G1 Roraima's covegare has focused on the factual, with official voices only and no regard for the impacts of violence in the reality of these communities. The research also percieved a timid change in the narrative of G1 Roraima's coverage starting with articles produced in partnership with Rede Amazônica, a network that sent reporters to the territory, defining the incidents as "attacks inflicted by gold miners on Indigenous peoples".
