Abstract

Racial violence occurs via invisibilization, malicious comments filled with prejudice and disguised as curiosity about the exotic, discredit, and the denial of the right to speak. In Memories of the plantation: episodes from everyday life, Grada Kilomba unveils the everyday episodes of racism, inviting readers to recognize its forms and the challenges it poses, while also encouraging the public to adhere to a ‘state of decolonisation’ as a way forward.
