Abstract

This work aims to analyze discursive and social practices which are relevant to the construction of representations and to the public opinion manipulation through printed media. It objectifies weaken the strength correlations of communities/social agitations and the State power and, yet, criminalize the social agitation and its integrants. The analysis is about finding textual marks in informative texts that may suggest a specific political position to the reader. We analyzed news about environmental issues from the newspapers O POVO, Estado e Diário do Nordeste, as well as letters, notes and electronic messages about the same issues. All the texts were produced by the community, by social agitations or politicians worried about these fights. We looked mainly for Fairclough (2008) and van Dijk (2008) to compound our bibliographical references. Even in informative texts, the daily constructs representations able to alter the correlation of strengths between the sectors involved, bringing back the hegemonic discourse.
