Abstract

Regina Vater, Marta Minujín, and Lotty Rosenfeld are key figures for understanding the incursion of women into the Latin American art space in the 20th century. Between 1960 and 1980, they experienced a significant process of artistic internationalization financed by their families or via grants from foreign institutions. For these women, internationalization was crucial for their artistic recognition as it allowed contact with avant-garde aesthetic movements, prestigious institutions, and prominent artists. However, interactions between Latin Americans, Europeans, and North Americans reproduced the power relations and hierarchies characteristic of the political and economic spheres. This article reflects on how Vater, Minujín, and Rosenfeld addressed these issues in their autobiographical works, positioning themselves singularly regarding their Latin American origins and the impact of nationality on their integration into a globalized art circuit.
