Edward Jenner e a origem da inoculação vacinal

Edward Jenner (1749-1823) figura como um dos nomes relacionados à inoculação vacinal. Ele realizou uma vacinação bem-sucedida. Em uma série de publicações, apresentou os procedimentos e resultados da vacinação tornando a imunização artificial conhecida em vários países. Inicialmente apresentamos uma breve introdução sobre o assunto seguida da tradução para a língua portuguesa de uma dessas publicações (Jenner, 1801). Em uma linguagem bastante acessível, ele apresentou um breve relato sobre a origem da inoculação vacinal e de suas investigações acerca da varíola bovina. Esperamos que esta tradução possa contribuir para ampliar o conhecimento sobre as contribuições de Jenner para o campo da imunologia
