Edward Jenner (1749-1823) appears as one of the names related to vaccines. He performed a successful vaccination. He presented the vaccination procedures and results in several publications that made artificial immunization known in several countries. Initially, we present a brief introduction to the subject followed by the translation into Portuguese of one of these publications (Jenner, 1801). In very accessible language, he presented a brief account of the origins of vaccine injection and his investigations into cowpox. We hope that this translation can contribute to expanding knowledge about Jenner’s contributions to the field of immunology.
