Author Guidelines

Original manuscripts should be submitted with the text typed in ODT, DOC, or DOCX format, without author identification. Professional data will be registered on our website.

An email will be sent confirming receipt of the text, and another upon completion of the evaluation process.

We publish articles and reviews by Masters and Doctors, as well as Master's and PhD candidates, from strictu sensu postgraduate programs.

There is no cost for submission or publication of the text.

By submitting, the author confirms that the text has not been submitted to another journal and will not be submitted to another journal during the evaluation period.

Publication Types and Criteria

 

 

Articles

 

Articles submitted for publication must be original and unpublished and contain a maximum of 50,000 characters (with spaces), including bibliographic references and notes.

Main evaluation criteria: suitability to the journal's editorial line, clarity and style, presentation and fulfillment of objectives, relevance of the bibliography, and other points assessed by the reviewers.

 

Reviews

 

Critical reviews of one book, or several books addressing the same theme, must contain a maximum of 20,000 characters (with spaces), including bibliographic references and notes.

Reviews must present the complete reference of the analyzed works at the beginning of the text.

 

Interviews

 

40,000 characters (with spaces), including bibliographic references and notes.

 

Translations

 

Translations submitted for publication must be original and unpublished and contain a maximum of 50,000 characters (with spaces), including bibliographic references and notes.


 

Rules for Bibliographic References

 

Bibliographic references must follow the APA (American Psychological Association) guidelines.

Whenever possible, please provide the DOI of the article, following the model below, in the format http://...

 

Notes and Textual Citations

 

  • Footnotes should only be used for substantive (explanatory) notes.

  • Textual citations must have their references indicated within the body of the text.

Examples:

  • “Thus, for example, he says in the Introduction to A Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy that ‘labor is a (...) modern category’" (Marx, 1982, p.16).

  • “According to Fichte (1992, p.357), ‘this is the cornerstone of Kantian realism’.”

  • For references immediately following the same work, include in parentheses idem, pagination (for different pagination) and idem, ibidem (for cases of the same pagination).

  • Do not include the author's name in capital letters (uppercase).

 

References

 

  • References should be placed at the end of the text and organized, first, by alphabetical order of the authors' surnames.

  • Texts by the same author should be ordered by year of publication, from the oldest to the most recent.

  • Starting from the second line of the reference, a hanging indent must be used (under the third letter of the entry).

  • If two works by the same author are cited, the author's name must be repeated as indicated in the model below (do not use a dash: ______________.).

 

Books

 

Author's Surname, Abbreviated First Name. (year). Title in italics: subtitle in italics. Translation by First Name and Surname. Edition number, if not the first. Place of publication, State: Publisher's name.

Examples:

Two to seven authors: Separate all names with a comma, except for the last one, which should be separated from the previous one by a comma followed by &.

Example of authorship presentation: Aboulafia, M., Bookman, M., & Kemp, C.

 

Book Chapters and Collections

 

Author's Surname, Abbreviated First Name. (year). Title of the essay. In Organizers' Surname, Abbreviated First Name of the organizers (Orgs.), Title of the collection in italics: subtitle in italics (initial and final pagination). Edition number, if not the first. Place of publication: Publisher's name.

If there is electronic access, the webpage address must be provided at the end, preceded by the expression “Retrieved from”. In this case, the name of the institution must be presented within parentheses, preceded by a comma.

Text Formatting Template

 

To ensure standardization and facilitate the evaluation process, the submission of works to the journal must be done using the submission template, available for download.

Only works that adhere to our publication guidelines for both formatting and bibliographic references will be forwarded for the evaluation process.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This text is original, it was not previously published or submitted to another journal / preprint platform. If this is not the case, please write us at filosofiaalema@usp.br before submitting your work.

  • The submission file is in format DOC or DOCX.

  • Articles must contain:

    - Title - in the same language of the article and (if this is not the present language) in English.

    - Abstract with until 100 words - in the same language of the article and (if this is not the present language) in English.

    - Keywords (3 – 5) - in the same language of the article and (if this is not the present language) in English.

    - Bibliographical references must be listed in the last page, following APA (American Psychological Association) guidelines.

  • All submissions must follow the editorial norms, policies, stylistic patterns and bibliographical requisites of the journal as described in https://www.revistas.usp.br/filosofiaalema

  • URLs and DOIs must be informed whenever possible (for example: for translated articles that already had a DOI assigned).

  • Authors must inform their professional data (institution, position, titles, ORCID ID) in the assigned field of the register form.

  • No information about the author or that can identify the authorship must be listed in the text.

Articles

Currently, Cadernos de Filosofia Alemã: Crítica e Modernidade  publishes articles in Portuguese, Spanish, French and English.

 
The articles can be submitted at any time in our website (in case of doubt, contact us sending a message to filosofiaalema@usp.br). If in accordance with our policies and norms, the texts are sent to double blind review.

The articles must contain until 45,000 characters (including spaces). Title must be informed in the same language of the article and (if this is not the present language) in English. It also must contain an Abstract with until 100 words and - Keywords (3 – 5) - both in the same language of the article and (if this is not the present language) in English.

Bibliographical references must be listed in the last page, following APA (American Psychological Association) guidelines.

Reviews

Cadernos de Filosofia Alemã: Crítica e Modernidade publishes reviews in Portuguese, Spanish, French and English about one or several books with a related subject and presently relevant. It is not required that the reviewed book was published in Brazil.

The texts must contain until 20,000 characters (including spaces). A title must be informed in the same language of the review and (if this is not the present language) in English. Bibliographical references must be listed in the last page, following APA (American Psychological Association) guidelines.

Translations

Cadernos de Filosofia Alemã: Crítica e Modernidade publishes translations to Portuguese of classic / relevant texts, except when the original is in Spanish.

The texts must contain until 45,000 characters (including spaces). Title must be informed in the same language of the translation and (if this is not the present language) in English. Bibliographical references must be listed in the last page, following APA (American Psychological Association) guidelines.

Authors must also send us the original work from which the translation is derived and the authorization for publication in an open-acess journal by the owner of its rights (if it applies).

The translation can be preceded by a short presentation written by the translator or others, which also will be evaluated in blind review.

Interviews

Cadernos de Filosofia Alemã: Crítica e Modernidade publishes interviews in Portuguese, Spanish, French and English with intellectuals who have given important contributions on fields related to the research lines covered by this periodic. They must be preceded by a brief presentation of the interviewed and the context of the interview.

The texts must contain until 40,000 characters (including spaces). A title and 3-5 Keywords must be informed - both in the same language of the interview and (if this is not the present language) in English. Bibliographical references must be listed in the last page, following APA (American Psychological Association) guidelines.

Names and addresses registered in our journal will be used exclusively for purposes of this publication and will not be shared with third parties or used for other ends.
