Notes for the study of the documentary typology ofinquisitorial manuscripts

In this article we present elements for studying the documental typology of a set of 93 autograph documents produced in the context of the activities of the Lisbon Inquisition, carried out in Bahia. This work aims to propose a glossary for the documental types identified in the collection under study, based on the glossary of documental species proposed by Bellotto (2008). The research is bibliographic in nature, based on the study of some documental species to establish the documental types into which they are divided within the scope of the activities of the Tribunal do Santo Ofício (Tribunal of the Holy Office) in Bahia, and descriptive, by characterizing the structure and functionality of the texts in order to identify their documentary species and establish their type. This proposal is justified by the scarcity of research that specifically considers the documental typology of inquisitorial manuscripts. Therefore, it is expected that this study will be an enlightening starting point for the development of other research that considers related texts.
