In this paper, we reflect upon what Administrative Agencies of Brazilian Public Education have called evaluative culture. Based on results derived from research involving narratives produced by Brazilian undergraduate students, we have raised questions regarding the emergence of this evaluative culture . Among them, we have highlighted the exigency of essay exams as one of the criteria for admission to the university and the process of selection for Brazilian communication enterprises.
