The main aim of this paper is to present briefly the current situation of the process of implementation of Timor-Leste’s language policy and language teaching policy, based on the collection of different data, mainly documents, and also based on the direct observation, in one year of work, of the teaching situation of Portuguese language in the country. In this sense, at first is pointed out some brief notes about the history of Portuguese language in the country and the current language policy and language teaching policy, discussing at the end the challenges of the Timorese multilingual context to the development of the official and native language teaching.
