Abstract

The Unilateral Neglect is oftem observed in non dominant cerebral hemisphere lesios, where damage affects the spacial area and the body scheme, causing perception harms. The pacient fails in reacting to stimulus that occur in the contralateral space to a brain damage, and to recognize segments of the commited mid-body, remaining na attention deficit. The main etiology is the cerebral vascular accident, causing injury in the temporoparietal region of right hemisphere. This disturb, it can persist during months or years or never disappear, which can limit the functional prognosis, specialy in daily living activities and walk. Thus, it requires and carly diagnosis and an intensive rehabilitation programme made by na interdisciplinary team, with the goal to stimulate the attention and function of the side of body involved. During the study, it was observed that main implications goes the failure of the reahabilitation, it plows related to the attention´s injury, the spontaneous fail of the patient to attempt stimulus into neglect side, a lack of iniciative, collaboration and goes the need of costant stimulation of made, It showed an illustrative case of a moderate neglect owing to na eschemical cerebral vascular accident after two year damage, which has beel followed in Associação de Assistência a Criança Deficiente (AACD), since january, 1994.
