The use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) has transformed the Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operation industry. However, the exploration of design alternatives continues as one of its biggest challenges, wasting the enormous impact that technology has on the subsidy decisions still taken at the design stage. The investigation of research in the design stage comes from the need to think it integrated to all the phases of the project, thus enabling the management of the information, geometric or not, from the beginning of the process, promoting an integrated project. Considering that BIM is able to support these new approaches, we examine opportunity and potential of renewing the applicability of renewing the application of patterns (Alexander et al., 1977), supporting the construction of algorithms capable of authenticating new solutions in the design of projects that can be validated in the context of the project of social housing (HIS). In this sense, this article discusses the combined use of model authoring tools and visual programming language based tools to aid in the design stage through Semantic Enrichment of BIM. This methodology proved to be applicable and of great potential to support the HIS design process. The methods used for the elaboration of this methodology can be replicated in order to qualify other types of building.
