Digital modern: (re)construction of modern architecture in Fortaleza-Ceará (Brazil)

Abstract

The topic "Digital Modern" is a metaphor for expressing the importance of the valorization of the modern architecture in the current stage of capitalism and in the context of the Industry 4.0, marked also by the inclusion of the virtual/digital in the disciplinary field of Architecture and Urbanism. Linking, past, present and future, this paper aims to discuss the importance of redrawing and documentation of the most emblematic modern works of Fortaleza, capital of Ceará (Brazil), using digital technologies, such as the HBIM platform and 3D printing, with the aim of contributing to the valorization of memory and conservation of this important architectural heritage.

Author Biography

  • Ricardo Alexandre Paiva, Universidade Federal Do Ceará

    Ricardo Paiva holds a degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the Federal University of Ceará – UFC (1997), having received the academic distinction Magna Cum Laude, a master's degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo (FAUUSP) (2005) and a Phd in Architecture and Urbanism by the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo (FAUUSP) (2011) with the thesis "The Hybrid Metropolis: the role of tourism in the urbanization process of the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza". He is Associate Professor at Architecture and Urbanism and Design Department at the UFC and was Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism and Design at UFC - PPGAU + D-UFC (2015-2018). He coordinates the LoCAU (Laboratory of Critics in Architecture, Urbanism and Urbanization). He was a Junior Visiting Professor with a CAPES scholarship, at IST-UL - Portugal and DOCOMOMO International. Among other publications, he is the organizer and author of chapters in the book “Tourism, Architecture and City” and “Megaevents and Urban Interventions”, published by Editora Manole in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
