Design Management has been widely used in the business environment, either as a differentiation strategy or as a competitive advantage for innovation and value creation. However, there are many conflicts between Design Management and Business Management, especially with regard to the attributions conferred to each area in a company. This article tries to comprehend how the relation between Design Management and Business Management is established at the strategic, tactical and operational levels. The methodological procedure is characterized as exploratory, of a qualitative nature, with a literature review to understand the areas and trace a relationship between their characteristics and activities. The theoretical references were collected from searches conducted in the “Portal Periódicos Capes” and Google Scholar, following some filtering criteria. The investigated bibliography allowed the organization of knowledge about the areas, in the form of a chart, and the elaboration of three figures that relate the activities performed. The results indicate a direct relation between Design Management and Business Management, even pointing out authors who treat Design Management as a new way of management. However, the main focus of this management is on activities related to Design, especially to create value and innovation so that the company stands out and remains ahead in the market that is constantly changing.
