The use of digital photogrametry and parametry to evidence the anamorphic effects of constructive elements of the eclectic architecture of pelotas

Abstract

Some examples of eclectic architecture from Pelotas, built at the end of the 19th century, prove the work of professionals with the ability to produce anamorphic effects, which induce a specific perception of form from a certain point of view. This study, of didactic and investigative interest, exercises the representation of two constructive elements of this architecture: the half dome of the Santa Casa Chapel, perceived as a full dome, designed by the architect José Isella, and the skylight of the main house of the Museu do Doce, perceived as an eye, of unknown authorship. Through procedures involving digital photogrammetry and parametry, representations are produced that seek to explain the relative positions between the parts of the elements for the generation of the mentioned effects. These representations result in digital, interactive resources, with different levels of abstraction: from the photorealistic three-dimensional model to the conceptual model. Such resources have facilitated the manipulation of digital models of architectural elements for an awakening about the design logic involved in the production of the identified effects. In addition to investing in the training process on anamorphisms, through digital technologies, resources and discourses were increased to be used in actions to value the approached heritage, which subsidize the advance in the production of hypotheses authored by José Isella on the project of the skylight.
