Open source urban furniture: stimulus for collaborative projects

Abstract

With cities becoming more and more populous, new strategies for the public space have been devised with a view to reducing costs and encouraging the involvement of the population in collective actions. The collaboration of professionals in the creation and formulation of open source urban furniture has proved to be an innovative strategy with results for reflection. Based on postgraduate research on the subject, this article reviews concepts and theoretical contributions on this possibility of intervention. With methodology centered on systematic review and literature narrative, key ideas are synthesized from the main selected descriptors and three projects that support the discussion on the production of this typology today. It is concluded that there are important gains in collaborative actions involving urban furniture, both for the space and the population that host the interventions, and for the disciplinary field, which advances in discussions on integrated participatory processes.

    Graduated in Archited and Urbanist from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (FAU/UFJF, 2015), Master's stugent in the Postgraduate Program in Built Environment at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora - PROA/UFJF (2021-2023). Have experience in the field of Architecture and Urbanism and Interior Design.

State of Rio de Janeiro (IFCH/UERJ, 1995), master's degree in Urbanism from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (PROURB/UFRJ, 1997), doctorate in Social Sciences from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (PPCIS/UERJ, 2003) with an exchange at the Facultad de Bellas Artes of the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Spain (FBBAA/UPV, 2000), post-doctorate in Architecture at the Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal (FA/UTL, 2005), senior post-doctorates in Urbanism (PROURB /UFRJ, 2013) and in Landscaping from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (MPAP/UFRJ, 2018). Is currently professor of the graduation in Architecture and Urbanism and Permanent Professor of the Postgraduate Program in Built Environment at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (PROAC/UFJF, since 2010) and of the Professional Postgraduate Program in Management and Evaluation of Public Education (PPGP/UFJF, since 2018).
