Author Guidelines

At the time of submission, inform and validate the ORCID of all authors and inserting it on the title page of the article.

1. The Manuscript must contain: Abstract, Abstract, Introduction, Objective, Previous work, Materials and Methods (in this item, it must be clearly expressed whether AI tools were used, even if it was used for data mining, otherwise the manuscript will be returned), Presentation of data, Discussion, Conclusion and Bibliographical references, and Cover letter containing declaration of authors' contribution and respective credits (Ex. for five authors: Author A: Conceptualization, Data curation, Formal analysis, Investigation, Methodology, Validation, Visualization, Writing - original draft, Writing - review and editing; Author B: Conceptualization, Data curation, Formal analysis, Investigation, Methodology, Validation, Visualization, Writing - original draft, Writing - review and editing, Fundraising; Author C: Conceptualization, Research; Author D: Methodology, Data Curation; Author E: Methodology, Data curation.);

2. Front page – it must contain the title in Portuguese and in English, and a short title with no more than 50 characters including spaces; the author’s complete names, institution of origin of the authors and email of all authors; ORCID of all authors; complete institutional address of the main author only (public address, zip code, city, state, country, mailbox and contact telephone); number of words; total of figures and tables.

3. Abstract and Resumo (in Portuguese) – they must be concise and written in a single paragraph, and contain a maximum of 270 words. Longer texts must come with a detailed justifi cation.

 

4. keywords and Palavras-chave (in Portuguese) – maximum of six, separated by semicolons, with the first letter capitalized. E.g. Palavras-chave: Bacia do Araripe; Quaternário; Fácies; Depósitos magmáticos. Keywords: Araripe Basin; Quaternary; Facies; Magmatic deposits. As shown in the example, the descriptors in English must follow the terms in Portuguese.

 

5. Main text – it can be written either in Portuguese or English. It should be prepared in Windows Word, Times New Roman, font size 12, single space. The maximum size accepted for publication is 25 pages, including text, resumo, abstract, tables, figures and references. Longer texts can be accepted provided that scientific arguments are presented and accepted by the Editorial Board. Page configuration: A4 format; upper and lower margins: 3 cm; right and left: 2 cm.

a) Insert page numbers, figures, tables and legends in the manuscript to be submitted.

b) After the manuscript had been approved for publication, figures and tables must be removed from the text. They should be sent separately and numbered, each in a file. The legends must be listed in a single file, separated from the figures and tables.

 

6. Titles:

 a) Title of the article:

Headline - Bold, uppercase in the first letter of the first word and lower in the others.

Title in English - Italic, upper case in the first letter of the first word and lower case in the others (without bold).

Short title - High case in the first letter of the first word and low case in the others (without bold / without italic).

 

b) Titles and subtitles within the article:

LEVEL 1 - BOLD, BOX HIGH.

Level 2 - Bold, high box in the first letter of the first word and box low in the others.

Level 3 - Italic, high box in the first letter of the first word and box low in the others (without bold).

Level 4 - High box in the first letter of the first word and low box in the others (without bold)

 

7. Tables and charts – consider chart as table. To be prepared in Windows Word, table mode, open, Arial, font size 8. Sizes: 8.2 cm (one column) or 17 cm (two columns), 22 cm of maximum length, including the legend. Very long tables should be split.

a) Insert tables in the manuscript to be submitted together with their legends and sequentially numbered.

b) After the manuscript had been approved for publication, the tables must be removed from the text. Send them separately and numbered, each in a file. The legends must be listed in a single file, separated from the tables.

 

8. Illustrations – consider maps, photos, figures, graphs, prints, photomicrographs etc. as figures. Use Arial, font size 9.

Sizes: 8.2 cm (one column) or 17 cm (two columns), 22 cm of maximum length, including the legend.

a) Insert the figures in the manuscript to be submitted together with their legends and sequentially numbered. 

b) After the manuscript had been approved for publication, figures must be removed from the text. They should be sent separately and numbered, each in a file.  JPEG, TIFF or EPS formats, minimum resolution of 300 dpi. The legends must be listed in a single file, separated from the figures. 

c) Legends: font Times New Roman, font size 12 (without italic).

 

9. Reference citations in the text should be as follows:

a) One author:

Santos (1980) / (Santos, 1980)

b) Two authors:

Norton and Long (1995) / (Norton and Long, 1980)

c) More than two authors:

Moorbath et al. (1992) / (Moorbath et al., 1992)

d) Congresses, conferences, seminars etc.:

...in the Brazilian Congress of Geology (1984) / (Brazilian Congress of Geology, 1984)

e) Several articles by different authors:

Smith (1985), Rose and Turner (1986) and Johnson et al. (1990) / (Smith, 1985; Rose and Turner, 1986; Johnson et al., 1990)

f) Citation of several articles of the same author:

Smith (1979a, 1979b, 1981) / (Smith, 1979a, 1979b, 1981)

 

10. References - list at the end of the text, in alphabetical order of authors and after that sequence in chronological order.

DOI: insert it into all references that have already.

The accuracy of references is the responsibility of the authors.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • 1 – The contribution is original and unpublished, and has not been submitted to any other journal for publication; if otherwise, an explanation should be written in "Comments to the Editor".
  • 2 – The file for submission is in Microsoft Word format.
  • 3 – The title of the manuscript is in Portuguese and English; short title (maximum of 50 characters with spaces); abstract in Portuguese (resumo) and English with a maximum of 270 words; limit of six keywords.
  • 4 – The resumo or abstract is inserted at step 3 – Inclusion of Metadata with a maximum of 249 words.
  • 5 – The figures are in high resolution, minimum of 300 dpi.
  • 6 – All citations are referred to and vice-versa.
  • 7 – Citations and references comply with the journal instructions.
  • 8 - All information is contained in a single file, that is, front page, main text, figures, legends and tables are in the same file (this condition is valid only during the submission/reviewing processes; after the manuscript is approved for publication, the final format is different; for more details please refer to Guidelines for the Authors).
  • 9 - At the time of submission, inform and validate the ORCID of all authors and insert the title page of the article.

• Articles must make original contributions to the field of Geology and must not have been submitted to any other journal.

• The concepts expressed as well as the references are the sole and exclusive responsibility of the authors.
