Theoretical bases of information management
from the genesis to the interdisciplinary relations

This paper discusses about the major historical events and initiatives that originated the information management. It is presented the conceptual progress of the theme, starting from the basic discussion of the initial meanings to the terms information and management, in discussing the interdisciplinary relations of information management. It is characterized as an exploratory study with qualitative approach, of bibliographic type. The contemporary information management is become this discipline fundamental to the development of a new one - Knowledge Management - whose objective is different of information management because it thoughts beyond the information management. From this, it is considered that the main objective of the present study was achieved, once it provides theoretical subsides for the development of future researches about information management.
