Abstract

Infocommunication skills are essential for the learning required in universities and relate to better academic performance. Assessing students’ perceptions of self-efficacy, motivations for learning, and attitudes regarding these competencies is an indispensable condition for informed decision-making in programs or training courses promoted by university libraries. Thus, this study offers partial results of research which aims to build an instrument to assess students’ perceptions of infocommunication competencies by following Psychometrics precepts, an area of Psychology assessing the validity and reliability of research instruments. As our methodology, models and patterns of information and communication competencies were analyzed to extract the behaviors which formed the basis for instrument findings, which were categorized according to Super 8 dimensions. As partial results, this study synthesizes the extracted behaviors and cuts out instrument items. We hope that our Psychometric approach will forward Information Science in Brazil and contribute to assessing infocommunication competencies.
