Abstract

Between the end of the 18th and beginning of the 21st centuries, the French society underwent deep changes. The family model, as well as the level of health, witnessed such changes. However, even with a distance of two centuries, family and health remain two "pillars" of society. This paradox is discussed in terms of "long duration", and the characteristics, differences and similarities of family and health throughout time are defined. The conclusion is that the family continues to be the guardian of health, currently resorting to scientific medicine.
