Alexandre Rodrigues Ferreira: brazilian Humboldt?

This article presents a comparative analysis between Alexandre Rodrigues Ferreira and Alexander von Humboldt, aiming to assess the appropriateness of the epithet "Brazilian Humboldt" bestowed upon Alexandre. The naturalists in question played a significant role in advancing scientific knowledge in the 19th century through pioneering expeditions that substantially contributed to the fields of zoology, botany, and ecology. This research investigates the trajectories of both scientists, emphasizing the similarities and differences in their scientific approaches, employed methodologies, and discoveries made in order to determine whether the comparisons between Alexandre and Humboldt are well-founded. Furthermore, the study examines the historical and cultural context in which each naturalist was immersed, taking into account the specific influences and challenges they faced.
