Intertextuality by Co-Presence and Pedagogical Argumentative Modality: An Analysis of Fact-checking Texts from the G1 News Portal

Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate intertextuality in fact-checking texts from the G1 news portal, mobilized with the intention of pedagogically reorienting the view of the interlocutor(s) on fake news circulating on the internet. To this end, we base our analysis on studies in Textual Linguistics (Cavalcante et al., 2020; 2022), especially in the category of intertextuality (Carvalho, 2018), and its interface with the Theory of Argumentation in Discourse (Amossy, 2018), particularly regarding the pedagogical argumentative modality. In terms of methodology, this study adopts a qualitative approach to data treatment and is characterized as explanatory and descriptive research, using the hypothetico-deductive method, based on gaps in the analysis of intertextual processes in fact-checking texts and their pedagogical argumentation. The corpus was collected from the “Fato ou Fake” page of the G1 news portal. For the analysis, two texts were selected, concerning probable taxes created by the Federal Government in 2025, checked by the portal and labeled as “fake”. The results show that the speaker appeals to direct quotations with source indications, as well as additional contextualizations and allusions, guiding the audience to recognize that certain news stories are false.
