Textual Anti-Racism: The Socio-Cognitive and Socio-Political Character of Public Texts

The aim of this study is to discuss how the textual-discursive and sociocognitive analysis of opinion articles from the journalistic field, against the racist virtual campaign Somos Todos Macacos (We Are All Monkeys), launched by soccer player Neymar Júnior in April 2014, can point to effective anti-racist practices of text production and publication of texts. This study is based on an arbitration between the sociocognitive-interactional approach and a socio-anthropological perspective on text studies. We argue that the publication, albeit not collectively planned, of these opinion articles represents an important case of social cognition functioning with texts and highlights the importance of social reflexivity and the collective construction or modeling of knowledge in the constitution of anti-racist social cognition. Furthermore, the collective production of the opinion articles under analysis represents, from a sociopolitical perspective, an important case of anti-racism and, therefore, a democratic practice.
