Motivational technodiscourses on Instagram: an analysis of viewpoints and online enunciative responsibility

Abstract

This study investigates the discursive strategies of motivational technodiscourses on the social media platform Instagram from the perspective of Textual Discourse Analysis (Adam, 2011; 2019), Point of View theory (Rabatel, 2013; 2016a; 2016b), and Digital Discourse Analysis (Paveau, 2022). The general objective is to analyze, textually and discursively, the points of view and enunciative responsibility in motivational technodiscourses expressed in Instagram posts. Specific objectives include: i) identifying and describing the points of view, as well as the movements of (non-)assumption of the propositional content in motivational technodiscourses; ii) analyzing the enunciative stances of the speakers-enunciators regarding the points of view attributed to others, considering the discursive formation that regulates them; and iii) interpreting the meanings evoked by motivational technodiscourses. The research adopts a qualitative approach (Paiva, 2019), of a descriptive-interpretative nature (Gil, 2002), and follows a mixed analysis process, based on the articulation of deductive and inductive methods (Moraes, 2003). The study revealed that the points of view, assumed or imputed, have strong persuasive potential; thus, in all cases, a correspondence with human needs such as esteem and self-actualization was observed. Enunciative responsibility is manifested mainly by person indices and thetic modalities, with co-enunciator and super-enunciator positions predominating.
