Marcel Proust’s “translation era” places him at the core of the political, intellectual and artistic arena of his time. Aspects of cultural history fundament the understanding of Proust’s translations as a strategy of redefinition of his profile as a writer, as well as the importance of translation itself in the general context of antagonisms between cosmopolitans and nationalists, which characterize the French Belle Epoque.
