Abstract

This article foregrounds aspects of the confluence between Literary Criticism and Psichoanalysis. Polemical, this line of research seeks to respect the uniqueness of the literary, preserving the marks of the "otherknowlegde". The course taken here implies searching the limits and the contributions Of Psichoanalysis for the interpretation of the work of art as well as tracing the historical traits which constitute the relations aimed at in Brazilian literature.  We have chosen part of the criticism about Machado de Assis - master of the "mysteries of the soul" and the object of scholars who, along different decades, were alredy worried about the confluence mentioned above.
