Abstract

Beginning in 1922, and by means of his friendship with Villa-Lobos, Luciano Gallet, and Camargo Guarnieri, Mário de Andrade tried to establish a "Brasilian musical grammar", seeking harmonic solutions that eluded French and Italian standards. The musicologist's experimentation can be traced in his conrrespondence with the composers.
