Abstract

This paper develops a reading of O filantropo (1998) grounded
upon the confrontation of this fiction by Rodrigo Naves with essays by the same author concerning works produced by Jackson Pollock, Amilcar de Castro and Mira Schendel. It suggests that the incorporation of problems of the realm of the plastic arts is combined in the book with a reflection on the difficulties in apprehending intellectually the contemporary world.
