Abstract

The aim of our essay is the analysis of two novels by Maria José
Dupré, a 1940’s Brazilian writer. In Éramos seis and Gina, we try to articulate the social context of the time to the formal aspects
of the narrative, filling up spaces that were left by the Brazilian
literary critics, always worried about the great modernist writers – not that this constitutes itself a problem, but sometimes leaves untouched aspects of the relation between literature and society that only the average writers are able to reveal.
