Abstract

Bringing back the ethical function of Plato's exemplum, didatic literature guieded the readers the last European Middle Ages to an imitation of Christ. The portuguese manuscript of the XV century, entitled Esop's Book, reinforced the classical heritage and state that pacience, chastity, humility and work were the true road to Paradise.
