Abstract

This essay is presented in two parts: the first part analyzing the novel Os novos (1971), a generation novel, talking about a group of academic students dealing with the oppression of a military regimen and the doubts before the possible paths. The second part of the essay deals with the tales by Luiz Vilela (also located in the same period), but instead, trying to understand some procedures by the author to construct the narrative, as well as to point out the lyricism present in several of his stories.

    Ariovaldo Vidal é professor do Departamento de Teoria Literária e Literatura Comparada (DTLLC), da Universidade de São Paulo. Publicou os livros Roteiro para um narrador (2000), Leniza & Elis (2002) em parceria, e Atando as pontas da vida (no prelo). Trabalha com a prosa brasileira moderna, a poesia brasileira do mesmo período, bem como com as relações entre literatura e cinema, procurando compreender a poética do autor em suas implicações com a tradição literária e a matéria social.
